Match Report By Peter Fox Whitley made it 9 wins on the spin at they thrashed a sorry Chester-le-Street at Moor Park on Tuesday. Ian Chandler rested Kerr, Sheeran and Bell – they were all the bench – but as the manager said afterwards “I don’t see the team I put out as being weakened as all players are at the top of their game and it showed last night.' If any Bay fan had worries about where the goals were going to come from with the three main strikers all on the bench these were swiftly dispelled after only 35 seconds when Robbie Livermore charged down a clearance, and rounded keeper Paul Newton before firing home. Six minutes later and it should have been two as Kevin Walton put Mark Minto through but he blasted over. Chester did have some pressure and Burke had to hold a free kick but it was Bay who were creating the chances and Whitley doubled their lead after 32 minutes when a huge clearance from Burke bounced just outside the Chester-le-Street area and Minto beat Newton to the ball to head over the keeper and into an empty net. With Chester on such a bad run most of the home fans assumed that the game was over before half time, and although Johnny Wightman forced Burke into a good save just before the break Bay were three up ten minutes into the second half. A good move ended up with Minto intelligently cutting the ball back for Phillips to sidefoot home. Lee Kerr came on for Mark Taylor after 57 minutes and took four minutes to get on the scoresheet when he fired home from a Phillips cross, 4-0. Bell replaced Walton, as he wanted to get in the act against his old club, and he came close when in a frantic passage of play Bell, Robson and Phillips all saw shots go just off target with the home defence all over the place. Craig Price then put a cross over for Bell which he headed wide under pressure, but there was no mistake when Bell returned the favour after 85 minutes. After nutmegging a defender, Bell put a great cross to the far post where Price powered home a header to get his first goal for the club and make it 5-0 All the Bay fans wanted now was a Bell goal and it came in stoppage time when a free kick from the Bay left was flicked on and Bell was on hand to head the ball past the hapless Newton at the back post. A great confidence booster before the Blyth game. Bay: Burke, Taylor (Kerr 57), Phillips (Rattle 73), Timmons, Coulson, Rowe, Walton (Bell 62), Price, Minto, Robson, Livermore. Not Used: Cuggy, Sheeran.
