14/01/2010 - Poole Town Match Preview

Whitley Bay host Poole Town on Saturday (16th Jan) at Hillheads in the FA Vase 4th Round.

Both teams are riding high in their respective leagues but the bad weather has meant neither side has yet played a game in 2010.

Bay boss Ian Chandler is not concerned about a lack of match fitness though

"The lads are really looking forward to Saturday, they’ve been itching for a game for 4 weeks now and it’s just extra spicy in that it’s the Vase.

Last weekend we trained both Saturday & Sunday with an almost 100% turn out so everyone is on top of their fitness, we’ve also played a behind closed doors friendly so I’ve no worries about how we’ll fair on Saturday. One doubt is Chris Reid who injured his ankle sledging last week, he’s been punished for his stupidity.

We’ve had a few reports on Poole and have a game plan, nothing drastic in terms of us changing our style just some things we can work on and use to our advantage.

All in all we’ll show Poole total respect, as should be expected considering they won their league last year and are riding high this year, however I expect us to be in the hat come next Monday"

At the time of writing the pitch has a covering of snow, but the players trained on the pitch on Tuesday and with tempratures predicted to raise over the next few days confidence is high that the match will go ahead.

Poole are due to travel up to the North East on Friday morning.

Kick off is at 3pm and entry is £7 for adults and £4 for concessions. Score updates will, as ever, be available on this site and on our twitter site for those unable to make it to the game. Bay officials are hoping for a crowd approaching 4 figures with the recent lack of football in the area and Newcastle Utd not playing until Monday night.
